One Nation claims WA Labor approach

One Nation's party leader in Western Australia claims Labor has made an approach about preferences in the state election.

"I didn't expect Mark McGowan to come knocking ... but they have. That happened yesterday," Colin Tincknell told ABC radio on Friday.

Mr McGowan, the state opposition leader, said he had never met or even spoken to Mr Tincknell.

"I wouldn't know him if he came up and tapped me on the shoulder. I've had no conversations with One Nation," he told reporters.

When asked if representatives from Labor had been in touch with One Nation, Mr McGowan would only say it was hard for members of various parties to avoid meeting each other at industry briefings.

"Not a big state - people run into each other."

He also said preferences were "a matter for the party".

Forming any sort of relationship with either major party was a vexatious issue as One Nation didn't have a lot in common with them, Mr Tincknell added.
