A prospector and his dog feared missing in Western Australia's Goldfield's region are safe and well.

Mr Ballard's last contact with his family was via SMS on July 20, but he had not been heard from since, which was out of character.

Local police failed to locate Mr Ballard and his pet kelpie after ground and air searches.

But police said on Wednesday that Mr Ballard had since made contact with his wife.

"All is well and he is in the Kalgoorlie area," police said.
