No Pokemon Go at WA war memorials

WA Premier Colin Barnett has backed calls to stop Pokemon Go players trying to catch 'em all at war memorials, but says the phenomenon is a positive thing that brings gamers outdoors.

The Returned and Services League and WA Veterans Affairs Minister Joe Francis are fed up with players swarming around sites such as the Flame of Remembrance at Kings Park, saying it is disrespectful.

"I would agree with Joe: I think war memorials should not be included. They are solemn places or remembrance and respect for those who served our country and lost their lives," Mr Barnett told reporters on Sunday.

It comes after the NSW government on Saturday asked the app's maker Niantic to remove Sydney's Anzac Memorial as a "PokeStop".

But Mr Barnett says there are positives to the craze.

"I think the Pokemon fad is good - a lot of people having a lot of fun, they're getting away from screens and are out there with groups enjoying themselves," Mr Barnett said.
