Murder charge for baby bashing accused dad

A West Australian man who allegedly fatally assaulted his baby boy will have his charge upgraded to murder at his next court appearance, prosecutors have indicated.

Nathaniel MacRae was brought to Narrogin Regional Hospital in October 2017 with injuries when he was aged six weeks.

He was transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital but was later released.

In March last year, Michael Ashley MacRae, then aged 25, was charged with aggravated grievous bodily harm.

Then in September, Nathaniel died at his Golden Bay home.

MacRae appeared in person in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court on Wednesday and heard prosecutors intended to upgrade his charge to murder.

He had his bail renewed.

Prosecutors also plan to revoke bail at his next appearance in the Supreme Court of WA on July 22.
