Milestone for major new WA gold mine

Fanfare surrounding the development of a major new gold mine in a remote part of Western Australia has begun, with Premier Mark McGowan pressing the button for the first steel cut by fabricators.

The steel was cut at Civmec's Henderson facility on Friday for extraction tanks that will be used at the Gruyere project, a joint venture between Perth-based Gold Road and South Africa's Gold Fields in the far Eastern Goldfields region.

Mr McGowan talked up the hundreds of jobs created by the project, where production is slated to begin in 2019.
