McGowan warns WA upper house members

WA Premier Mark McGowan has vowed to work with Pauline Hanson's One Nation to get legislation through the upper house, but has reminded all members that Labor was elected convincingly on its policies.

Mr McGowan said he didn't want to have a similar situation as the federal parliament where a senator could "hold the entire country to ransom and demand something for their state".

"We received a major mandate for our legislative program and I'd urge all upper house members to remember that," he told reporters on Sunday.

Mr McGowan said there was a "fundamental unfairness", with Labor receiving about 120,000 more votes than the Liberal and National parties, but only getting one extra member in the upper house.

He said it was an issue he would look at in the future.
