Man shot by police faces bedside hearing

A 65-year-old man who was shot in the thigh after allegedly pointed a rifle at police, will have a bedside hearing in a Perth hospital.

Police were called to a home in Myerick Street in Mandurah on Saturday night after receiving reports about a man armed with a gun.

Police say that as they approached the house, a man came out the front door brandishing what appeared to be a rifle.

They say he ignored instructions to drop it and instead pointed the rifle at police.

Police shot the man in the upper left thigh and he was then taken to hospital.

He was charged with being armed in a way that may cause fear and unlicensed person possess firearm/ammunition.

The man will face a bedside hearing later on Monday.

Police Internal Affairs Unit officers are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
