A drug dealer caught with almost four kilograms of methamphetamine in a Perth motel room has been jailed for 11 years.

Ronald Kirikau, 51, pleaded guilty to possessing with intent to sell or supply the drug, which had a purity of up to 76 per cent.

The West Australian District Court heard on Friday that if the drugs were to be sold at up to 40 per cent purity, they could fetch up to $3.4 million on the street.

Judge Mark Herron said those higher up in the drug ring placed a significant amount of trust in Kirikau, adding that Kirikau was "more than a mere courier".

"You played an active part in the criminal enterprise," he said.

Judge Herron accepted that Kirikau - who had a lengthy criminal record - was remorseful, but said general deterrence was important.

Kirikau has been declared a drug trafficker. He will be eligible for parole.
