Man jailed for six years over fatal crash

A Perth driver who killed a pedestrian and injured another while he was affected by drugs and alcohol has been jailed for six years.

Darren Bastin, 45, was killed when Rodney Stewart Halliday, 48, crashed into him as he stood on a Kelmscott footpath in November 2013.

A 22-year-old woman was also injured.

Halliday had alcohol, cannabis and methamphetamine in his system at the time.

He pleaded guilty in the Perth District Court to several charges, including dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing bodily harm and failing to provide a blood sample.

Halliday will be eligible for parole after serving four years behind bars.
