Man dies after head-on collision in WA

A man has died after a head-on collision in Western Australia's Great Southern region.

The 45-year-old from Mount Barker died after his car collided with a four-wheel drive going in the opposite direction on the Albany Highway on Monday afternoon.

The man and a woman from the other car received serious injuries and were taken to Albany Hospital, before being transferred to Royal Perth Hospital.

This takes the road toll for this year to 171, exceeding last years total of 161.
