Man dies after breaking down in remote WA

A 60-year-old man died just two kilometres short of help after walking 46km when he became stranded in remote Western Australia.

The man was travelling between Wonganoo Station and Windidda Station with a woman on Sunday when their car broke down.

They camped out overnight and waited for another vehicle to help them.

At 5am on Monday, the man set off for Windidda Station about 48km away with a small container of water.

When he failed to return by the next day, the woman attempted to walk to the station herself.

She was found camped out on the roadside on Wednesday night by people from Wonganoo Station.

The man was later found dead about 2km from Windidda Station.

Police said a report would be prepared for the coroner.

People stranded in remote areas are advised not to panic and stay with their vehicle at all times.
