Man admits abandoning tot in crashed car

A Perth man has admitted to leaving his injured three-year-old daughter inside a crashed and burning car.

Bevan Stanley Cameron, 25, appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Thursday via video link from Hakea Prison.

The court heard that on April 20, Cameron fled the stolen car after crashing it on Great Eastern Highway in Midland, leaving his daughter behind.

He was charged with 10 offences and has so far pleaded guilty to three charges: dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, being the driver of a vehicle involved in an incident and failing to ensure each victim received required assistance, and stealing a motor vehicle.

He is scheduled for a sentence mention in the District Court of Western Australia on September 5.

The other charges including having a blood alcohol level exceeding 0.08 and being armed or pretending to be armed in a way that may cause fear will be heard on September 8, either in the District Court or Magistrates Court.

The Magistrates Court heard on Wednesday that Cameron was unsure how to plead as he could not remember the events because he was drunk.

His daughter was treated for a torn bladder.
