Labor can't pay for poll promises: Nahan
WA Treasurer Mike Nahan has accused Labor of being unable to tell voters how it will pay for $5 billion worth of election promises, less than two weeks before they go to the polls.
"Labor's so-called debt reduction plan of waiting for the GST to rise above 65 cents in the dollar and iron ore to stay above $85/tonne has been exposed as a cop-out by the CCI (WA Chamber of Commerce) because it won't raise a single cent," he said.
The current share of GST was 30 cents in the dollar and was forecast to hit 60 cents in the dollar in 2019-20, he said.
"More importantly, if iron ore prices were $85/tonne, the GST share would be below 60 cents in the dollar," he said.
"Therefore, Labor's whole debt reduction strategy will never raise a cent and seriously brings into question their understanding of the state's finances."
