Labor can still win Hasluck: McGowan

The federal seat of Hasluck could still go to Labor, West Australian opposition leader Mark McGowan says.

The party has retained all three of the seats it held in WA - Fremantle, Perth and Brand - and also won the newly-created seat of Burt with Matt Keogh, who performed strongly after losing last year's Canning by-election to Liberal Andrew Hastie.

In Cowan, Labor's Anne Aly is ahead of incumbent Liberal Luke Simpkins by more than 900 votes and Mr McGowan says he's confident she'll win.

Mr McGowan told reporters in Perth on Sunday the results so far were roughly in line with what he expected.

"I was hoping for five electorates and I haven't actually ruled us out in Hasluck," he said.

"Now that's a third of the federal seats (in WA).

"From where we were a few years ago, that's a big improvement."

Early counting shows incumbent Hasluck MP, Liberal Ken Wyatt, is leading Labor's Bill Leadbetter by almost 2400 votes.
