Killer whales filmed by drones off WA

Drone footage of killer whales has been captured by two young aerial photographers off the West Australian south coast.

Jampal Williamson told AAP the pod of orcas, which were filmed off Bremer Bay in WA's Great Southern region, moved so fast through the water they were hard to film.

"They're quite inquisitive. They come right up to the boat and surface for a bit and blow air, then dive again and suddenly they'd be a few hundred metres from the boat," Mr Williamson said.

"It was an interesting experience, to say the least. The whales are fast and to shoot them from above is a challenge."

Mr Williamson said he and his friend Michael Goetze began using drones to capture different perspectives of the state for their aerial photography project, Salty Wings.

"We just decided to put WA on the map in terms of aerial photography because no one is doing it," he said.
