A seriously injured cray fisherman has been pulled to safety from a fishing boat in high seas off Western Australia's south coast .

The man had sustained a life-threatening injury, believed to be on his foot, prompting an emergency call at about 1pm on Sunday.

A helicopter crew rescued the man from the boat at about 6.30pm, 80km north-east of Israelite Bay in 4-5 metre seas with winds of up to 30 knots.
