Homeless murderer in WA refused appeal

A homeless man jailed for murdering someone he believed had slept with his girlfriend has had an appeal against his sentence dismissed by a Perth court.

Jarrad Anthony Angliss was jailed for life, with a minimum of 18 years, for the murder of 32-year-old Randall Lee Duncan in Fremantle in September 2012.

Angliss, then 18, was dating an older woman and believed Mr Duncan - who had recently become itinerant, although he had a home and family - had had sex with the woman.

The sentencing judge said there might have been another person involved in the laneway bashing, but it was Angliss who stabbed Mr Duncan with scissors while he was on the ground.

Angliss had argued the non-parole period was manifestly excessive, but the Court of Appeal ruled on Friday the sentence could not be described as unreasonable or plainly unjust.
