Family cans basic Christmas after $10m win

A young family from the working class Perth suburb of Armadale were preparing for a modest Christmas but are now planning a trip to Disneyland and their dream home after winning $10 million.

The couple say their children will have everything they need including a great education and told Lotterywest they hadn't slept a wink since learning of their good fortune on Wednesday night.

"We follow a very strict budget and live pay to pay. We were preparing for a basic Christmas because we couldn't afford anything extravagant but that's all about to change now," they said.

"We've been looking at houses all night and are blown away by what we can afford.

"It will have all the bells and whistles - two storeys, a pool and even a new family dog."

The prize is the second largest to be won in WA this year, following a $40 million win in March.
