Facebook refuses request from Perth high school to take down student fight page

The principal and parents at a Perth high school have demanded a Facebook page posting playground brawls be taken down.

In one of the videos on the Perth Fights page, two year nine students from Kincross College punch and kick each other, egged on by their peers.

The video emerged on a Facebook page yesterday that encourages Perth locals to share vision of fights.

Students can be heard encouraging the fight: “Go…fight, fight, fight”.

Kincross College Principal Llyod Page condemned the schoolyard attack and requested Facebook take it down.

“It does the school’s reputation some harm when we have incidents like this,” he said.

The clip lasts for just over a minute until a teacher breaks it up.

It’s the second video from the college and the fourth from a northern suburbs school that’s been shared in the past week.

A concerned parent contacted Facebook asking for the page to be taken down because of its graphic content but Facebook responded saying the page doesn’t breach its standards.

The school held an assembly yesterday and sent a letter home to parents informing them of the incident. Both students in the latest video were suspended.

“Hopefully they've learnt from it and they’ll be able to talk about the inappropriate manner they dealt with it to their children,” Mr Page said.
