An arrest warrant has been issued for former AFL player Shane Yarran after he failed to appear in a Perth court over an allegation he stabbed a man.

The 27-year-old previously pleaded not guilty to unlawful wounding, and was due to face Armadale Magistrates Court on Tuesday for a trial allocation hearing, but never showed up.

The alleged attack happened in July 2015 - four months before he was drafted by the Dockers - and he retired last year after he made headlines for his off-field behaviour.

Yarran also faces charges of breaching protective bail conditions, breaching a violence restraining order and disorderly behaviour in public.

He has not entered pleas for those three offences.

Yarran previously pleaded not guilty to a separate charge of common assault in circumstances of aggravation over an incident allegedly involving a family member.

He is due to stand trial for that offence on August 29.
