Employer, WA boat firm charged over death

Two companies and a boat skipper have been charged over the death of a Perth mortgage broker during a corporate cruise.

Mortgage broker Damien Mills was among 35 people aboard a charter vessel for an event hosted by financial services company The Pepper Group on October 31.

He did not get off the boat when it docked in Fremantle that afternoon and was found floating about 5.5km off Leighton Beach the next day wearing only his underwear.

The Pepper Group has been charged with unlawfully supplying alcohol while the Fremantle boat charter company has been charged with "allowing a premises to be used as a place of resort for the consumption of alcohol".

The 30-year-old skipper faces the charges of "unlawful sale of alcohol and alternate of supply" and "allowing a premises to be used as a place of resort for the consumption of alcohol".

All three parties appeared in the Fremantle Magistrates Court on Friday and are due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on May 12.

A report is being prepared for the coroner.
