Ellenbrook misses out on rail in WA plan

The cash-strapped West Australian government has released a new transport plan for Perth, including an expansion of the city's train network and rapid bus transit lanes.

WA Transport Minister Dean Nalder announced the plan on Friday which proposes expanding the train network from 180km to 300km and having bus lanes in areas where the level of demand doesn't warrant a train line.

The expanding outer north-eastern suburb of Ellenbrook has been earmarked for bus lanes, which will likely anger residents as a heavy rail link had been promised in the Barnett government's 2008 election campaign.
