Eagles fans land after Nullarbor trek

Red dust-covered buses have finally arrived in Melbourne, packed with weary West Coast Eagles fans after a three-day drive across the Nullarbor.

Eagles supporter Melanie Marai lobbed on Friday morning and will have just over 30 hours in the Victorian capital before hopping back aboard for the journey home on Saturday night only hours after the grand final.

"They pick us up at 8pm after the game and start the trek home - it's pretty brutal," she said.

Ms Marai said she was disappointed to learn some plane flights to Melbourne were selling for a third of what they were earlier this week, with Virgin charging $365 on Thursday.

"No one would wait that long to book a flight," she said.

"You're not going to wait to the last minute to get a flight if you have a ticket to the game."

Ms Marai said although she had enjoyed the transcontinental bus journey to attend the premiership decider between the Eagles and Hawthorn, it would be her last.

"It was a good road trip experience - once in a lifetime - and I will never do it again."
