A drug-affected and unlicensed driver has been jailed for seven-and-a-half years for causing a head-on crash in Perth that killed his partner and injured a passenger in the other car.

Bourke James Morrison, 25, was driving a stolen car at up to 140km/h in November 2014 when he drove onto the wrong side of the road in Orelia to avoid police.

The pursuit was aborted, but Morrison smashed into another car, killing his 23-year-old partner Kyra Narrier, while his unrestrained four-year-old nephew avoided serious injury.

A passenger in the other car suffered a broken ankle.

In sentencing on Thursday, West Australian District Court Judge Gillian Braddock described Morrison as "a missile loose on the road" but accepted he was sorry.

Morrison must serve five-and-a-half years behind bars before he can be eligible for parole.
