Driver shames Perth council over parking ticket

The City of Perth has been forced to waive a parking fine after a driver posted CCTV footage online of one of their inspectors incorrectly fining him.

Tri Pham was parked in a loading zone at 10:06am on June 16 for only seven minutes when a city parking inspector chalked the tyre of his van.

Mr Pham drove off at 10:13am and didn't return to the spot until 10:52am.

While he was gone the inspector observed a truck briefly parked in the same loading zone.

Four minutes after returning to the spot, Mr Pham was targeted again by the inspector who re-chalked his tyre and issued him an on-the-spot fine for $60.

Mr Pham told Fairfax Media the fine indicated he had been parked in the same spot since 10:02am and had exceeded the allocated time limit by 20 minutes.

Despite having the CCTV vision proving his innocence, Mr Pham claims the City of Perth rejected his appeal against the fine and refused to view the footage.

"(The City of Perth) did not even wish to view my CCTV evidence and basically said I must pay the fine otherwise take it to court or the ombudsman," he told Fairfax Media.

"I reviewed the video footage and was extremely annoyed at what was discovered." He posted the CCTV vision to his Facebook profile where it has been viewed more than 70,000 times.

The City of Perth withdrew the fine yesterday.
