Qld murder accused to be handed to WA

A convicted rapist accused of murdering a teenage hitchhiker north of Perth 16 years ago is set to be transferred from a Queensland jail to Western Australia to face charges over her death.

A magistrate ordered the transfer of Francis John Wark at a hearing in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

An arrest warrant was issued in WA for Wark over the 1999 disappearance of 17-year-old Hayley Dodd.

The teenager went missing while hitchhiking on North West Road near Badgingarra, about 200km north of Perth.

Wark is serving a 12-year sentence in Queensland for the rape of a different hitchhiker whom he held captive.

"I have no objections, Your Honour," Wark told Brisbane magistrate Barry Cosgrove when asked whether he had anything to say about the transfer.

It's understood he will be moved to WA in the next few weeks.

Wark has been linked to Hayley's disappearance for several years.

Police partly dismantled a property on North West Road in 2014 after it emerged John Robert McConnell, a child sex offender, had lived there with Wark.

According to media reports in May, when police confirmed a warrant for Wark's arrest had been issued, Wark told his lawyer Darryl Ryan that he had "never killed anyone", but wouldn't fight his extradition as he "wants to clear his name".
