The man accused of murdering West Australian teenager Hayley Dodd almost 18 years ago will face a two-day hearing in May to argue for a judge-alone trial.

Francis John Wark, 61, was charged in December 2015 and later pleaded not guilty, indicating he wanted to be tried without a jury due to the publicity surrounding the case.

The 17-year-old girl was last seen alive walking along a road near Badgingarra, 200km north of Perth, on July 29, 1999.

During a status conference on Thursday, the WA Supreme Court determined Wark's application would be heard on May 22 and 23, and his trial remains set for October.
