Doctors and nurses are being targeted by violent patients, one video showing a patient launching himself into a wire barrier meant to protect hospital staff.

Another man hurls a chair before going on a rampage, then threatens those who care for our sick and vulnerable by smashing in a glass door.

Perth Emergency Doctors say they're faced with scenes like this nearly every day.

WA's health workers aren't the only ones fearing for their safety.

At the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where the footage was taken, the number of violent incident, or code greys, has jumped from 4000 in 2013, to almost 7500 last year.

Also disturbing is the amount of time WA mental health patients have to wait to get specialist care.

It's been revealed they're kept waiting in our emergency rooms longer than anywhere else in the country.

The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine found it takes more than eight hours to find two thirds of people suffering from mental illness a hospital bed.

Sometimes up to four days to move them to a specialist area.
