WA ELECTION CAMPAIGN: DAY THREE

WHERE THE LEADERS CAMPAIGNED

* Premier Colin Barnett campaigned in the seat of Perth, which his party holds with a margin of 2.8 per cent

* Labor leader Mark McGowan campaigned in Burns Beach, which is held by the Liberals by 11.3 per cent

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DAY

* Mr Barnett promised $24m over four years to upgrade playgrounds at public schools, reaffirmed his stance against the mining tax, and said the Liberals always preferenced the Nationals

* Mr McGowan promised methamphetamine traffickers would face life in prison, and pledged $2m for coding and $17m to expand science in primary school curriculums

* The Nationals launched their election campaign in Bunbury, with leader Brendon Grylls saying their proposed mining tax was the only plan on offer to save the state budget

* One Nation's Colin Tincknell said Labor had approached them about preference deals, but Mr McGowan said he had never spoken to Mr Tincknell

* The latest opinion poll shows that on a two-party preferred basis, Labor leads with 54 per cent of the vote, the Liberals following with 46 per cent

* The same poll shows that One Nation has 13 per cent of the primary vote, and 44 per cent of people think Mr McGowan would make a better premier than Colin Barnett (32 per cent)
