Damaged WA fracking valve removed

A allegedly sabotaged gas valve at a fracking site in the Kimberley region has been removed for further analysis.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum inspected the Buru Energy Yulleroo 2 valve in January after footage posted online by anti-fracking movement Lock the Gate showed a hand-held gas meter showing high levels of methane.

Department officers allege an unauthorised person entered the site and damaged a valve on the well head.

Police are trying to identify who damaged the valve.

Buru executive chairman Eric Streitberg said on Tuesday the damaged valve had been removed and taken to the department's safety branch to be inspected.

Mr Streitberg said apart from the damaged valve, the well was in excellent condition.

He said the company would review security at its sites to ensure similar incidents were not repeated.
