Councillors told to better disclose gifts

WA Councillors will have to declare any gifts or travel contributions online within 10 days for the public to see as part of new disclosure requirements.

Previously, the Local Government Act only required disclosures of gifts and contributions to travel once a year.

A Corruption and Crime Commission report last year found Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi engaged in serious misconduct by accepting and keeping secret a $US36,000 ($A48,889.79) trip to Beijing from BHP Billiton.
