It cost about $30,000 for police to recapture accused "Evil 8" pedophile Alfred John Impicciatore, plus the cost of abandoning his trial, the West Australian police commissioner says.

Karl O'Callaghan said he believed anyone who breached bail once should be behind bars until their trial was completed.

"I understand that the attorney-general has forecast a review of the bail act," he told 6PR radio on Thursday.

"I think we've got to be a bit tougher on that sort of situation because there's an enormous drain on all sorts of resources to try and bring this guy back to justice."

Impicciatore, 47, is allegedly part of a group of men who sexually abused a young girl pimped out by her father, and was due to face trial last week but fled the state before being captured in NSW days later.
