Never tell a cosplay fan that dress-ups are for children.

These days, cosplay - short for costume play - is the centrepiece at comic conventions around the world with some people spending months perfecting their outfit including paint, foam, plastic, glitter and anything else they can find.

Perth's third annual Oz Comic-Con was no different with thousands of fans dressing up as monsters, superheroes and villains from comics, games, books, television and film.

While some fans paid to get a photograph or autograph from their favourite celebrity, others sat in on Q&A panels, joined workshops or watched screenings and gaming demonstrations.

Among the attendees were Doctor Who favourite Billie Piper, Freddy Krueger himself Robert Englund, Hercules star Kevin Sorbo, Billy Boyd from Lord of the Rings.

Also in attendance were Game of Thrones actors Finn Jones and Daniel Portman, The Walking Dead's Chad Coleman and Sonequa Martin-Green, and Buffy favourites Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson and Sarah Hagan.

Oz Comic-Con will next travel to Adelaide.
