Members of the Uniting Church will come together to decide the direction and priorities of the church in Australia over the next three years.

Meeting in Perth for six days from Sunday, 265 elected members will discuss proposals including a call for the restoration of aid cuts from the federal budget; the closure of Nauru and Manus Island detention centres; acknowledgement of the Armenian Genocide; and an awareness campaign on the plight of Palestinian Christians.

The church's 14th triennial assembly meeting will carry the `Hearts on Fire' theme, president-elect Stuart McMillan says.

"To be a Christian is to care for the marginalised and oppressed in our communities and the world," he said.
