Bushfires threaten lives north of Perth

Emergency alerts have been issued for bushfires threatening life and property near Yanchep National Park and Toodyay, north of Perth.

Residents in surrounding areas are in danger and must leave immediately if the path is clear or prepare to actively defend homes, authorities say.

The Department for Child Protection and Family Support has set up a temporary evacuation centre to shelter from the Yanchep National Park fire at Quinns Rock Sports Club at 17 Tapping Way.

The blaze is moving quickly northwest and has burned through 100 hectares in the park, which has been closed.

Fifty firefighters are on scene with aerial crews assisting.

The Toodyay fire started near Toodyay road, with residents in the vicinity encouraged to act immediately.

A watch and act alert was earlier issued for a bushfire in the shire of Beverley in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region.

The fast-moving blaze is headed towards the town of Dale.
