Firefighters have contained a bushfire burning in a plantation north of Perth, and the risk to nearby homes is easing.

An emergency warning for the fire, which has burned about 500 hectares of the Gnangara pine plantation, has been downgraded to watch-and-act.

"The bushfire is contained but not yet controlled," according to a statement from the Department of Parks and Wildlife.
