A bushfire in Perth's south may threaten homes and lives.

Authorities on Thursday afternoon issued a watch and act alert for the fast-moving blaze in the western part of Yangebup.

The warning applies to people bound by Marvell Road, Barrington Road, Shallcross Street and Beeliar Drive.

The fire has burnt about five hectares.

"You need to leave or get ready to actively defend," the Department of Fire and Emergency Services says.

"The bushfire is moving fast in a northeasterly direction.

"It is out of control and unpredictable."

A suspicious bushfire in Western Australia's South West region was earlier downgraded to an advice for parts of Irishtown, north of Donnybrook, in the Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup.

That blaze, which was reported just after 11am on Thursday, is contained and under control.
