Bushfire in WA's south less of a threat

A bushfire in the shire of Manjimup in Western Australia's south is no longer a threat to lives or homes.

A watch and act warning had been issued for people near Yanmah, but it was downgraded to advice later on Wednesday because the fire is stationary.

The fire, burning in bushland south of Ralston Road and west of Dixvale Road, is not yet under control and there is a lot of smoke in the area.

Fire crews are on the ground, with aerial support.

The blaze was reported just after 2.30pm on Wednesday and authorities are yet to determine the cause.

Some roads in the area are closed and residents are being urged to stay alert.

Authorities have also forecast a severe fire danger rating for inland parts of the Midwest Gascoyne, including Carnarvon, on Thursday.

That includes local government shires of:

* Carnarvon, inland

* Yalgoo

* Wiluna, western edge and south western tip

* Upper Gascoyne

* Shark Bay, inland

* Sandstone

* Murchison

* Mount Magnet

* Menzies, far western part

* Meekatharra

* Cue

Conditions in those regions will be very hot, dry and windy.

If a fire takes hold, it will be unpredictable, fast moving and hard to bring under control, authorities say.
