Brendon Grylls to remain in state politics

Pilbara MP Brendon Grylls says he'll remain in state parliament after previously declining to rule out a tilt at federal politics.

Mr Grylls stepped down as leader of the West Australian Nationals and regional development minister in November 2013 so he could spend more time raising a young family but he continued to represent the Pilbara on the backbench.

On Wednesday, Mr Grylls said the July 2 double-dissolution election provided a unique opportunity for the WA Nationals to gain a federal seat but he would stay a state MP to defend "consistent attacks" on the Royalties for Regions scheme he conceived.
