Big wave warning for WA water users

Fishers and other water users are urged to take care this weekend as big ocean swells whip up massive waves in Western Australia's coastal waters.

The swells are being generated by a deep low to the south of the state.

The Department of Fisheries said fishers should keep up to date with Bureau of Meteorology reports and not take risks in the unusual weather conditions.

"Fishing from rocks can be particularly dangerous," southern regions manager Kevin Donohue said.

"A number of fishers in WA have drowned in recent years after being swept off rocks by large or unexpected waves."

The monster waves drew big crowds of surfers and spectators to Margaret River on Friday.
