A man has been charged over an alleged rampage on a Perth train in which he performed an indecent act in front of a female passenger, assaulted a guard and ripped out part of a man's beard.

Police say the 23-year-old was travelling to Midland about 3.30pm on Thursday when the woman noticed him.

The man then allegedly assaulted a transit guard who approached him, but was restrained by the guard and other passengers.

Police say he grabbed a man's beard during the struggle and refused to let go, ripping out some hair.

The man also allegedly kicked another passenger before he was arrested by police at Midland station.
