Assets remain for sale despite WA optimism

The West Australian government will continue to sell off assets to stabilise debt despite the premier predicting an upturn in commodity prices after the next 12 months.

Speaking at the Africa Down Under mining conference in Perth on Wednesday, Colin Barnett said he was either brave enough or silly enough to say prices had hit bottom.

Mr Barnett told reporters the government was not going to recklessly rush into asset sales but would continue the program to stabilise and hopefully reduce WA's "manageable but uncomfortably high" debt levels.
