Alleged speedster charged after WA chase

Video footage of a police chase on a Perth highway shows a motorbike rider whizzing past cars, making their 100km/h speed limit look like a snail's pace.

A 21-year-old man has been accused of failing to stop for officers on the Mitchell Freeway on Wednesday morning, resulting in a chase involving police cars and a helicopter.

The rider evaded authorities for about 8km, eventually jumping off his motorbike when his path was blocked by police at traffic lights before being tackled by officers.

The man has been charged with failing to stop, driving recklessly and having no authority to drive.

He will face Perth Magistrates Court on May 17.
