Alert level downgraded for WA bushfire

The alert level for a bushfire that was threatening lives and homes in Western Australia's south has been downgraded.

The blaze was still not contained or controlled but it no longer posed a threat to residents of the Kenton Drive subdivision at Kentdale, around 30km from Walpole, the Department of Fire and Emergency Services said on Saturday night.

The alert level was downgraded from a watch and act to an advice after fire behaviour reduced significantly.

Around 55 firefighters were battling the blaze which was burning slowly in an easterly direction across grassland.

DFES has forecast a severe fire danger day on Sunday for parts of the Pilbara including the City of Karratha and the coastal area of Ashburton Shire, and the coastal parts of Shark Bay and Carnarvon Shires in the Gascoyne region.

Residents in parts of the Goldfields region including parts of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Coolgardie, Dundas, Laverton, Lenora, Menzies, Sandstone and Wiluna shires are also warned of a severe fire danger day.
