WA man charged after police pursuit

Police allegedly found a machete and sword in a man's utility after the 32-year-old led them on a pursuit that ended when he crashed into two vehicles.

Officers were patrolling the northern Perth suburb of Balga on Monday night when they attempted to stop the man, but he sped away.

A pursuit began a short time later when police again saw the utility driving at 140km/h in a 70km/h zone.

The vehicle drove through an intersection before crashing into a Mazda 2 hatch and then colliding with a police vehicle.

The 28-year-old female driver of the Mazda was taken to hospital but was released soon after.

The accused man tried to flee on foot but was caught by police, who searched his vehicle and allegedly found a sword, machete and knife.

He has been charged with reckless driving, failing to stop, no authority to drive, possessing a smoking implement, breach of bail and three counts of possessing a controlled weapon.

The man will appear in Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
