A Perth father is in a serious condition after a high-speed water collision which saw his motorboat launch into the air after effectively using another vessel as a ramp.

Nine News video shows Anthony Knight thrown from the back of his speedboat when it goes airborne and tilts on its side during the crash.

It is believed Mr Knight may have steered into the path of the other vessel when attempting a race manoeuvre at the WA Speed Boat Club's championship race day.

The 40-year-old suffered a punctured lung, a broken pelvis and broken ribs and was pulled unconscious from the water, Nine News reports.

He remains in an induced coma in a stable but serious condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

He was an experience driver and the Australian Power Boat Association said all safety procedures were followed.
