Arson squad investigating 10 suspicious blazes across Perth

Western Australia Police are on high alert as the arson squad investigates 10 suspicious blazes across Perth.

It comes as officers from Strike Force Vulcan, the state's arson prevention and response strategy, have their eyes set on the Oakford bushfire that flared up at the weekend.

The fire destroyed multiple structures, burnt through more than 280 hectares and is being treated as suspicious.

What caused the ignition is yet to be determined.

Police say they are concerned about this bushfire season, labelling the conditions as "horrendous" and worse than previous seasons.

"Since the start of the season we have investigated 58 bushfire offences and they are the true deliberate bushfires," Detective Sergeant Chris De Bruin said.

"There's big penalties, if you light a bushfire it's likely imprisonment."

Cucumber farmer Tony Ierace is among the many who fought to protect their livelihood in the Oakford blaze.

"It actually got right on my fence the fire brigade people were all down my driveway and they were really, really excellent, so I appreciate that," Mr Ierace said.

"I'm extremely lucky I think, I could see (the blaze) … way above the trees and I thought oh my god, I thought I'm gone here, I'm gone.

"It kept coming and the wind was just so strong."

If it weren't for the mercy of wind direction, he would've lost everything.

"Had it been a south easterly — home would've been gone," Mr Ierace said.

The Oakford fire is now under control.
