Bali flights cancelled again as volcanic ash cloud returns

More flights to and from Bali have been thrown into chaos because of an ongoing volcanic ash cloud triggered by an eruption on Mt Raung.

Both Jetstar and Virgin cancelled all 10 flights to and from Denpasar Airport after unfavourable winds blew ash dangerously close to flight paths today.

Denpasar Airport reopened earlier this evening but no flights from the Australian airlines will leave tonight.

Today’s delays came as both carriers finally cleared the frustrating backlog of flights caused by the eruption over the past three weeks.

Jetstar said it was confident it would be able to fly tomorrow and has vowed to add additional services to get travellers to and from Bali.

Virgin says its flights tomorrow will be delayed and the airline will update its customers by 10am (AEST).
