Countdown begins to return of Vivid festival

The countdown is on to welcome back Sydney's iconic Vivid festival after it was cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

It is 100 days until the anticipated return of the event with organisers kicking off the festivities with the launch of two "Countdown Clocks".

These will tick over until the festival's lights-on moment on August 6.

"Vivid Sydney is a bright star on Sydney's events calendar supporting the entire ecosystem of the state's visitor economy during winter, from our artistic industries to entertainment and hospitality venues, accommodation providers and retailers," Minister for Jobs, Investment, Tourism and Western Sydney Stuart Ayres said.

The Countdown Clocks were designed by Vivid Light Curator Lucy Keeler and will be located in First Fleet Park, The Rocks and Wulugul Walk in Barangaroo.

This year's festival will include a floating Light Walk on the waters of Cockle Bay in Darling Harbour; while The Rocks will be lit up by a collaborative project featuring artist Brad Robson drawing on the concept of mural painting.

The crowd favourite facade of Customs House will be brought to life by VORAX – an epic 3D tale of a mischievous thief's rise to greatness from Hong Kong's Treacle Media.

The full Vivid Sydney program will be announced in late May.
