Violence victims to be better protected

Australia has taken a step towards standardising domestic violence orders to provide better protection for victims when they move to different states.

Justice Minister Michael Keenan said it was agreed at the meeting of commonwealth, state and territory attorneys-general and justice ministers in Canberra on Thursday and will now go to the Council of Australian Governments for approval.

"Once agreed by COAG and implemented by jurisdictions, the framework will improve protection for victims by allowing DVOs issued in one jurisdiction to be automatically recognised and enforced in all other jurisdictions," Mr Keenan said in a statement.
